Cane Sweeps Pittsburgh Sunday
Wampum, PA – It was Jordan Cane sweeping the day with two victories in the F1600 Formula F Championship Series races, rounds 14 and 15 of the 2015 season, on Sunday at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex. In the morning he triumphed in a close battle, and later in the day, he broke away to cross the line.
Morning Race
The morning’s race saw a four-car train breakaway from the field for the 16-lap event. It consisted of Cane along with his Pelfrey teammate Ben Auriemma, as well as points leader Scott Andrews and Saturday winner Skylar Robinson. As the four traded the lead back and forth lap-after-lap.
Cane capitalized when it mattered, leading to the checkered flag and holding the others at bay to take his second win of the 2015 season. Auriemma and Robinson would complete the podium, with Andrews fourth at the line.
“I said yesterday I had to beat those two guys,” said Cane. “It was a great battle right to the end. Skylar tried me on the last corner and I managed to get around the outside, it was just great racing.”
Thomas McGregor picked his way through the field from 12th on the grid to complete the top five, dueling with Andrew Hobbs to the checkered flags.
Austin Mack's seventh place charge for K-Hill netted him fast lap, and pole for the third race of the weekend. Will Harvey was the first of two blue Chastain Motorsports Mygale/Hondas in eighth, while Steve Bamford and Jim Goughary had a dice to settle the Masters Class win, finishing ninth and tenth overall.
Bamford had worked his way to third before a spin, bouncing back to ninth after dropping down the order; a nice comeback drive after damage ended his Saturday race and left Rice Race Prep working into the night.
Afternoon Race
A few hours later, F1600 competitors took to the track for the second Sunday race, and the third and final Formula F race of the weekend. The front pack was split up a few times during the race, with Cane eventually breaking away after a long dice with teammate Auriemma.
Cane managed the gap to take the race win over Austin Mack’s K-Hill Mygale.
“I wasn’t expecting that, it was a hard field out there,” said Cane, who takes his third win of the year for Team Pelfrey. “This weekend has been almost picture perfect, I’m so pleased.”
Robert Megennis was third in a near-four-wide photo finish for the final podium spot. For Megennis, it’s a solid result after being taken out of Saturday’s F1600 race at Pittsburgh.
After leading early, Auriemma went off and on to finish fourth in another Pelfrey car. Steve Bamford finished fifth to take the Masters Class win, notching a solid finish in a rough F1600 weekend for the veteran.
Saturday winner Robinson could only manage sixth, but was part of the conversation at the front of the field at the start of the race in the No. 12 entry.
Thomas McGregor was seventh ahead of Andrew Hobbs. A high-profile DNF was points leader Scott Andrews, who retired after going off early in the race.

The next triple-header weekend of the F1600 Series takes place at New Jersey Motorsports Park, August 28-30.
