Cangialosi Dominates Friday Practice at Mid-Ohio
Lexington, OH – K-Hill Motorsports driver and current F1600 Championship Series points leader Dario Cangialosi is keeping his pace up, and led both all-green-flag Friday practice sessions at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to establish the No. 22 as the car to beat this weekend in three F1600 rounds.
The track changed between morning and afternoon, with the morning session warm, and the afternoon session seeing air temperatures well into the 90s, preparing drivers for what is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
The morning session saw Cangialosi pilot the No. 22 machine to a best time of 1:29.841 as the recent high school graduate was the only driver in the 1:29s, leading two teammates as Tyler O’Connor and Yuven Sundaramoorthy followed.
Fourth place went to Christian Lall Dass, who was followed by Baylor Griffin and the first Masters Class driver in Joe Colasacco. The latter is making his 2018 F1600 debut in the Auriana racing No. 5 Van Diemen/Honda.
Joel Haas was the second of the Masters Class drivers in seventh spot, just ahead of Jeffrey Bartz, another driver making his first F1600 start of the season, much like Robert Dietz in tenth, who was just behind Scott Rubenzer on the morning time sheets.
The track slowed down in the afternoon session, but told the same story at the top of the time sheets with Cangialosi turning in a best time of 1:30.349 in his K-Hill equipment.
He was followed this time by all Dass, who jumped O’Connor and Sundaramoorthy on the time sheets, demoting them to third and fourth, while Baylor Griffin and Joe Colasacco matched their morning results in fifth and sixth, respectively.
The top ten was completed by Rubenzer, Ryan Bjerke, Dexter Czuba and Mike Scanlan.
