Cangialosi First at Mid-Ohio
Lexington, OH – Dario Cangialosi took top honors in the third and final F1600 Championship Series season race of the weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on a hot Sunday afternoon. The points leader took the victory in round 12 of the 21-race 2018 season, winning a close contest that came down to the last lap ahead of fellow K-Hill Motorsports teammates Yuven Sundaramoorthy and Baylor Griffin.
“It was a tough race. I didn’t think I had it until the end. I got a good run going down the back straight,” said Cangialosi. “I was able to out brake everyone into the corner. Yuven almost went underneath me in the last corner, but I stuck it and it was good. I need to thank K-Hill for a great car all weekend.”
Race two winner Sundaramoorthy added: “Once again I did the same exact thing, hoping I could hold the lead like the last race. It was a good weekend with three podiums, my best so far. I’m looking forward to Pittsburgh.”
Griffins said: “It’s great to improve. It was a fun, clean race. It was fun to have a seven-car train going for the lead; that was intense. I want to congratulate my teammates for their awesome performances this weekend; it was a lot of fun.”
After leading laps, Christian Lall Dass came home in fourth place, involved in a last-lap skirmish with Tyler O’Connor, who finished seventh behind Masters Class winner Joe Colasacco and Dexter Czuba.
Auriana Racing’s Colasacco swept the weekend in his 2018 F1600 debut, taking all three Masters Class victories.
Completing the top ten were Jeffrey Bartz, Ryan Bjerke and Charles Anti.
Of note, over three F1600 races at Mid-Ohio, there was a single full course caution.
The F1600 Championship Series 2018 tour next heads for a tripleheader weekend, the Keystone Speedfest at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, August 3-5.
