Words from fellow racer and friend Chris Livengood:
I've known Vaughn longer in my life than I haven't known him. We grew up karting together at Columbiana raceway in Ohio.
He was always an excellent driver yet somehow managed to be an even better person. Vaughn and Peter are a part of my racing family. Vaughn was my brother from a different mother. Vaughn and I were fierce competitors on the track and the best of friends off the track.
When I ran into Vaughn at the track, during whatever event it might be, it was like we never skipped a beat. Things just picked up right back were they left off. It's like yesterday that we sat in Peter's truck and listened to Vaughn's high school concert band practice CD while at a karting event in Circleville, Ohio.
I spoke to Vaughn recently and we discussed several things. One of which is that I am currently restoring a 1974 RD350 and we made semi-formal plans to go riding together in the spring. I'm so sad that I will never get this chance.
Vaughn was a goofy and extremely kind hearted individual. I will miss the #73 so badly.
The last time I saw Vaughn was at Mid Ohio this summer. We went for pizza one evening and Vaughn signed him and I up for Karaoke while I was in the restroom. The song was Island in The Sun by Weezer. I didn't sing with Vaughn, I'm just too terrible a singer, but he did great. Vaughn, my friend, I hope that you are on that island in the sun, playing and having fun.
