Formula Race Promotions Takes on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course This Weekend

April 22, 2024

With one event done and dusted in the 2024 Formula Race Promotions (FRP) season, series teams and competitors will descend on the legendary Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend. Set for more wheel-to-wheel racing, a full slate of FRP classes will compete including F1600, F1600 Masters, Atlantic 016, Atlantic Open, and F2000 as they battle for cold hard cash during the F2000 Major Money Madness at Mid-Ohio. Also joining the weekend action will be the Challenge Cup FV series, opening their season with a robust field competing on Saturday and Sunday.

“It seems like just last week we were taking our first green flag of the season,” explained Bob Wright. “Now, we are already into event two with a ton of entries. It is going to be a great weekend in Ohio, and we can’t wait.”

After great racing at Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio is known for some close battles, and much of the same is expected this weekend. With entry for the event still open and numbers on the rise, FRP is expecting a great turnout, including mid-teens count of competitors in the F2000 class.

Wright continued, “The F1600 class is strong again, and the Atlantic class will be a similar size to our opening round in Atlanta. The F2000 numbers continue to climb, and we have enough entries right now to pay out the full amount.”

Set to hit the track Friday for testing and practice throughout the day, qualifying and wheel-to-wheel racing will commence Saturday with F1600 competitors having three feature races and F2000 and Atlantic drivers featured in two races.

F2000 Major Money Madness at Mid-Ohio

Saturday’s racing action will be a tune-up for Sunday’s larger purse, but the winner will receive $1000 for his or her efforts with $600 going to the runner-up and $400 to the driver who rounds out the podium in third. The “6th-place sucks” award will also bag a cool $400 cash as will the race’s Hard Charger, the driver gaining the most positions from where they start to when the checkered flag flies.

Sunday will see the purse increase with $1500 on the line for the winner and $750 for the second. Paying out the top-five on Sunday, third place will receive $500 with fourth and fifth earning $400 and $300 respectively. The Hard Charger on Sunday will also receive $500.
