FRP Teams and Competitors Head to Road America This Weekend

June 25, 2024

With only three races weekends left in the 2024 Formula Race Promotions (FRP) calendar, the popular race series will descend on Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin this weekend. Ready to tackle the 4.048-mile, 14-turn, natural terrain road course, F1600, F2000, and Atlantic competitors will compete in The Dairy State as the end-of-the-year title chase comes into view.

“We always love heading to Road America, and it is a favorite for a lot of our teams and drivers,” explained Bob Wright. “The rolling hills of Wisconsin provide for some intense battles on track, while the nightlife of downtown Elkhart Lake allows for some extracurricular activities in the evening.”

While the season is now past the midway mark, championship battles reign on, but the picture becomes clearer of who will be named an FRP champion in 2024. In the F1600 class, Sebastian Mateo Naranjo has been on a blistering pace, earning countless race wins to his credit as the Team Pelfrey driver is atop the F1600 results sheet. Timothy Steele, the DeFonce duo of Karsten and Dillon as well as the Tovo Twins of Ethan and Jackson, are all in hot pursuit, and with nine wheel-to-wheel races remaining, anything can happen. In the F1600 Masters class, Joe Colasacco is the driver the highest up in the standings. Between him, David Livingston Jr., Scott Rubenzer, and Bob Reid, it is a toss-up of which drivers will occupy the podium on any given weekend.

It looks to be a two-driver race in F2000 between Gabriel Cahan and Dane McMahon. Both drivers have been on the podium's top step, and when one wins, the other usually is chasing him across the line. With two races per weekend and six remaining, the F2000 championship may come down to the wire.

The Atlantic drivers will be back on track this weekend at Road America as Matthew Butson and Nathan Byrd are ahead of their respective classes. Butson is ahead of the pile in the 016 class while Byrd is dominating the championship battle in the Open class. Butson will have his hands full this weekend with the addition of the Grant brothers, Keith and David, and the always-competitive Tonis Kasemets.

Wright continued, “We are looking for another great weekend of racing beginning with a Test Day this Thursday in Wisconsin.”
