James Roe Jr. Continues Podium Streak
Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin – July 2, 2018 – James Roe Jr., of Naas, Kildare County, made the best of challenging weekend at the iconic 2.4-mile Mid-Ohio Road Course. Roe Jr. came away with 8th and 3rd place finishes.
Handling issues in Race 1
"During practice and qualifying James Roe Jr. knew he had his work cut out for him. “In practice it was obvious the local guys had the set up knowledge for the track as we struggled a lot on Friday” said Roe Jr. “It was strange after changing a number of things that usually work we found no improvements”
“On Saturday we qualified P6. During Race 1, I worked my way up to P5 after battling with Reece Everard, but by the time I got by him the lead group was gone. Unfortunately on the last lap car got loose through 11 where I ran wide dropping me to 8th”
Keeps Podium streak alive in Race 2 despite mechanical issues
For Race 2 Roe Jr. changed the set-up again and despite encountering a periodic engine miss he was able to qualify P3 for Race 2 — .02 off the Pole. “Race 2 was looking a lot more promising after eventually finding a sweet spot in the car , however on the out lap the car started misfiring again” said Roe Jr. “I got swarmed on the green flag due to the misfire and fell back to 8th. I worked my way back up to 4th by lap 2 . I ran the race alone short shifting just trying to make it home. Eventually I was able to finish P3 — not bad considering we were significantly down on power the entire race ”.
“Overall, it was frustrating to be honest” said Roe Jr. “It took alot longer time to find the sweet spot in the car than I expected. Once we found it we were on pace, but the misfire in Race 2 limited our potential. I believe we could have been in the fight for the win. The Arms Up crew worked extremely hard trying to get things sorted but I guess Lady Luck wasn’t with us this weekend ”
With a P3 at Mid-Ohio, James Roe Jr. has now podiumed at every venue that the Series has competed at this season – Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen, VIR and now Mid-Ohio.
Rounds 9 and 10 of the F2000 Championship are August 3rd – 5th at Pittsburgh International Raceway.
