Jenks Takes Pole for Race Two at Summit Point!
In the second round of qualifying here at Summit Point, Steve Jenks proved he could repeate his pace from yesterday and as a result he secured pole position for race one!
Perfect racing weather again blessed the Summit Point track, this time for the second qualifying session for the F2000 Championship Series. It took the drivers around six minutes to get up to speed, but in the good conditions times started to fall quickly.
Yesterday’s winner, Steve Jenks, was fast out of the gates and took the top step of the podium. Nick Palacio was just a tenth off in second. Dixon at this juncture was the third fastest driver.
At the fifteen minute mark, Dixon has now found pace. He goes to the top, but has less than a tenth of a second advantage on Jenks. Palacio is still the third fastest driver and is only two tenths of a second adrift of Jenks. Chas Shaffer, has run the fourth fastest time, but will have to find a few tenths to make any forward progress on the grid.
Ten minutes remaining, and it’s now Jenks is again the fastest driver. He’s leapfrogged Dixon by two tenths of a second. Meanwhile, Dixon plugs on, but he’s not improving.
Five minutes are left on the clock, Jenks is still the fastest. Dixon continues to circulate, but he’s not improved since the halfway mark in the session. Palacio has chipped away at Dixon, but he hasn’t found enough time for it to change the order.
As the checker flies, it’s Jenks on pole! Dixon will start second, Palacio third, Shaffer fourth, and Bob Wright fifth.
