Mullan Doubles Up with Second F1600 Win
Summit Point, WV – Colin Mullan made it two wins in three starts with a Sunday afternoon victory at Summit Point to close out his debut weekend in F1600 Championship Series competition. Across three all-green-flag F1600 races, the Rice Race Prep driver led the most laps and dominated the competition. Mullan took the round 18 victory ahead of Christian Lall Dass and Nicky Hays.
“It is an amazing series, and I’m having fun battling with all the cars here,” said Mullan. “Rice Race Prep gave me such an amazing car this weekend. I was able to get in quick times and keep pulling away; overall it was a great weekend. I got kind of lucky that Nicky and Christian were battling back there which allowed me to pull away and keep them out of the draft. It has been a great learning experience and I hope I’m back in a F1600 car sometime soon.”
LD Racing driver Lall Dass scored his second runner-up finish of the weekend, matching his best result far in his rookie season.
“It was a really good race and tough with Nicky; he is a really good and consistent driver,” Lall Dass said. “I was able to capture my second podium and I’m happy about that. I’m happy for the Ford fans, Fords can be competitive here.”
Hays completed the podium for Team Pelfrey.
“I went for a move in the last corner I hadn’t tried all weekend,” said Hays. “I knew what I tried yesterday wasn’t going to work twice. I tried to pass him on the outside, I had it on the exit and started running out of room. I decided to bring home third in one piece. I can’t thank Team Pelfrey enough for a great car. It was off timing on my car, losing the draft and never getting back in it. I can’t complain; the car is one piece and I’m in one piece; learned a ton this weekend.”
It was another off race for a trio of Championship contenders from K-Hill Motorsports at Summit Point. Dario Cangialosi, the points leader, finished sixth in a back-up car. Tyler O’Connor failed to finish; and Yuven Sundaramoorthy came home fourth.
Top honors in the competitive Masters Class category for gentlemen drivers went to LD Racing driver Joel Hass.
With three rounds at Summit Point finished, the F1600 Championship Series next moves to its season finale, with three rounds scheduled at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Sept. 14-16.
